Hello everybody! In my newfound quest to be frugal (City living will do that to poor kids like me ;) I have been constantly searching blogs and coupon sites for the best deals. Some of these ladies buy a weeks worth of groceries for $.40!! That is CENTS not dollars I don't know how they do it, but I am trying to learn because that's freakin' amazing!!! Anyway, while I was browsing my google readers recommendations (thanks to Mandi for the introduction to the wonderfulness that is google reader) I stumbled upon a blog offering a coupon for mini delights. If you are a woman or just plain NORMAL, sometimes you crave a little chocolate or cake, but don't want to make a whole pan (lest you cave and eat the whole thing; guilty, Guilty, GUILTY!) So Warm Delights seems like the perfect solution, except who wants to pay like $2 for a small snack. Well, I discovered that you can recreate a mini-cake easily with the cake mix I'm sure you all have in your cupboards. According to the post, all you have to do is put 3 Tbs cake mix and 1 Tbs + 1 tsp water in a small bowl (I used a small sized tupperware thing) mix and microwave for 30 seconds. I did not believe this would work.... But it does! And the cake tasted perfectly yummy, especially when smothered in chocolate frosting. Do you have any idea how many mini cakes you can make from a whole cake mix? I'm sure I'll be the first to find out since my mouth is full of sweet-toothes! Anyway, I just thought I would pass this on because one box of cake mix is about the same price, if not cheaper than the minis. Cool huh? I can't wait until Brock takes lunches to school and I can "bake" him cake every morning!

i think you just saved my life with this post...i buy those things so often because i always want a 'treat' and Brian doesn't like when i cook a whole pan because yes, we do cave in and eat the whole thing wayyyyyy toooo fast!!! I will definitely try this...probably with a brownie mix because that is my weak spot...with a scoop of ice cream.. jen
I'm going to go try it right now! You will definitely have to share any good blogs you find :)
I will have to try that when I get back to Moscow!
I'm on that frugal bus with you. When I married Paul I was the anti-budgeter, but necessity and a mortgage is changing me. I recently did a "tour" of grocery stores near us and made up a big ole excel cheet comparing prices. Paul almost fell over when he saw it. Be sure to share other fantastic tips you discover.
